Awakening with the Body: A Daylong Meditation Retreat
Description
This retreat will explore the depths of somatic knowledge through practices of mindfulness of the body from both Buddhist and Body-Mind Centering perspectives. The intention for this retreat is to connect us with the inherent wisdom of the body and cultivate trust in one’s embodied experience.
The retreat will be held in noble silence and will include short dharma talks, somatic practices, sitting and walking meditation, and short group discussions to reflect together and facilitate integration of the somatic learning.
There will be a midday lunch break to practice mindful eating.
Bring your lunch, yoga mat if you have one, and any appropriate props you will need for your sitting meditation practice. Rising Fawn Gardens has chairs, large bolsters and blankets. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking outside.
While the retreat is open to practitioners of all levels, some prior meditation experience is recommended.
Wisdom of the Body by Judith Roche
Because the gut is the center
it fills and empties, empties and fills.
The core of us receives all we take in
of the world - absorbs the gold,
discards the dross.
Whole colonies of cooperating communities,
within our deepest twists and turns,
kindly labor together for our benefit.
We mean Will when we say
someone has guts,
closely related to courage,
but coeur, heart,
cannot be other than true.
Once we get there,
though so many other agendas
can tangle the way.
The mouth knows the taste of its own tongue,
hungers for savor, makes meaning
of sound, trying to name truth.
Or not, depending on the mind.
The gut knows the difference
between shit and substance.
Keeps us honest.
